The Love of Jesus

Jesus loves you.  He loves you so much that He left the splendor and glory of heaven to be born in a barn.  He had no soft bed, instead His bed was a manger of hay surrounded by animals. He grew up as a poor child whose earthly daddy was a carpenter.  He had many brothers and sisters, so clothes and food were probably not plentiful.  As an adult, He walked the dusty roads of Israel for three years healing all those who came to Him and sharing the good news that He had come to redeem His people.  The religious leaders of the day sought to arrest or kill Him many times. They called Him a liar and a son of Satan.  In all of this, He never sinned.  Finally the religious leaders did have Him arrested.  They mocked Him, slapped Him, spit upon Him, beat Him, and led Him to the cross to die an awful death. Jesus allowed this because He knew that death was the penalty for sin, and that people needed a sinless sacrifice to pay for their sins. While hanging naked on that cross, with blood flowing from His bruised and beaten body, Jesus said, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do."  He forgave those who were killing Him. Since Adam, the first man, every person who has ever lived, except Jesus Christ, has been a sinner.  Jesus paid the death cost of all our sins because He loves us.

Why Do I Need Jesus?

GOD.  HOLY GOD.  SIN.

When was the last time that you told a lie?  Have you ever stolen?  Did the clerk give you too much change, and you just kept it because she should have been paying attention to her job?  We all sin.  We want 'me' to be happy, loved, and treated well, no matter what, and most of the time, we will do anything we have to do to make sure that happens.  Romans 3:23 says, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God..."

If we as sinners, tried to approach the HOLY, JUST GOD, His righteousness would consume us.  Romans 6:23 says, "...the wages of sin is death..."  You say, "Everyone dies."  Yes, everyone dies, but after death is life.  Everyone will live for eternity.  We will either live in Heaven or Hell.  Jesus wants us to live in Heaven for eternity with Him, so Jesus came to pay for our sins.  That is why we need Jesus.

How to Know Christ as Your                     Savior

ADMIT and REPENT-ADMIT to God that you are a sinner-you have done things in your life that you shouldn't have.  One lie is enough to keep us separated from God and in hell for all eternity. No person but Jesus ever lived without sinning. The BIBLE tells us in Romans 3:23 that "... all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."  Romans 6:23 says "...the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" so we need to REPENT-turn away from our sin.  The BIBLE tells us in Acts 3:19 to "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out."

BELIEVE-BELIEVE that Jesus is God's Son, that He died on the cross to pay for your sins.  Romans 5:8 tells us that "...God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us," and in John 3:16, "...God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."  God is HOLY and JUST.  If He should look at us in our sins, we would consume away, but when we believe in Jesus and repent of our sins when God looks at us all He sees is the Precious Blood of Jesus that cleanses us from all of our sins.

CONFESS-CONFESS your faith in Jesus as your Lord and Savior.  Romans 10:9-10 tells us "...if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved."

What Keeps Us Going

"Lometa First Baptist Church hosts the Capital Area Food Bank truck the third Wednesday of every month.  Without their generous outreach through this program, my family would often go hungry.  I am grateful to the church for the hours their members give in this effort."
